Web Sites on Translation Technology (selection)

  • TransRef – The Translation Reference Centre
    Resource and documentation site on the translation industry by Atril (Déjà Vu commercial distributors). It offers a wealth of information on a variety of topics, including experts’s opinions and CAT tools reviews, research on Translation Technology (TT), controlled languages, OCR, industry standards, machine translation (MT), directories and mailing lists on translation and interpreting, translation companies, software localisation, rates and contracts, terminology and glossaries, technical writing and conference interpreting, product specific lists, directories of translators and interpreters, associations of translations, interpreters, localisation and translation companies,  CAT tools and localisation software, periodicals (on-line magazines, paper magazines partially available online and paper magazines not available online), newsletters, research projects and centres, on-line references,  academic centres for translation, training, certification, deontology, etc. Updated on a daily basis. 
  • The Localisation Research Centre (LRC)
    Official web site of the Localisation Research Centre (University of Limerick, Ireland). It provides relevant information for the translation and localisation industry: publications, news, their EU-funded research projects (ELECT, CLP, WEbIt/Efcot, Transrouter, Euromap, DIET), terminology management, bibliography data bases on localisation, among others. The Info. Exchange section contains links, e-mailing lists and discussion groups on e-commerce, machine translation and computer assisted translation, internationalisation, globalisation, industry standards, quality assurance, glossaries, translation related associations, training (courses, conferences, workshops), etc. It also includes publications (magazines, books, newsletters), the localisation yellow pages, and job vacancies announcements. Since 2002 the Localisation Technology Laboratory and Showcase (LOTS) can be freely accessed to search for state-of-the-art localisation technology, and download demo versions and sample files for evaluation. From the right of the screen it is easy to see what content is new and updated on this site. 
  • Oficina de Español en la Sociedad de la Información (OESI)
    This site has been launched by the Cervantes Institute as a gateway for Linguistic Technologies (LT) in Spain. Apart from providing information about the OESI activities, the Cervantes Institute and LT in general, it includes sections on News and Events (courses, conferences, symposia); services like DILE (a data base of R&D projects, groups and organisations within LT) and Infoteca (a bibliographical data base) as well as a list of current or past OESI’s EU-projects (Eagles, RILE, Euromap, LIQUID, C-ORAL-ROM). A section on useful resources (on demand) is also included. There is no updating date.
  • Observatorio de Tecnologías de la Traducción (OTT)
    Official site of the Spanish Observatory of Translation Technologies (Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology. Research action IST-2001-34246, ref. no.: TIC2002-11705-E). It provides information on participants as well as several sections on resources (software and links), newsletters, news, publications and so forth. The Observatory (OTT) covers the following topics: corpus, translation memory (TM) and machine translation (MT) systems, software localisation, document management, terminological data bases, pre- and post-editing, controlled languages, and industry standards. The draft version is still under construction. It will be presumably updated on a monthly basis.
